Member Programs

Local domestic violence programs are the original founders and central strength of the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Local programs and the families they serve directly influence the work of WCADV. WCADV relies on local providers to tell us what is working and what is not working with regard to services, policies and systems. Our legislative work is directly influenced by the experiences of individual victims of domestic violence and their children and the programs that try to help them.

Typical services provided by these organizations include counseling, advocacy and support to men, women, children and youth and address immediate safety and long term stability. Advocacy is a primary activity of local programs. It often includes economic advocacy, legal advocacy, and advocacy with a wide variety of systems such as schools, health care, faith communities, and neighborhood associations. Many programs provide temporary shelter for victims and their children. The delivery of some of these services is defined by the Department of Health and Family Services. And, while each program is unique, the one thing all domestic violence service providers in Wisconsin share in common is too much business.

We rely on member programs to share their expertise with their sister programs. Rather than an association of self-interested organizations, WCADV is a strong alliance of programs with diverse interests. WCADV's member programs have operated from the premise that there will be adequate resources for and attention to the diverse interests and communities they represent. This is a network of multi-dimensional links and relationships that have an expansive influence on individuals, communities and authorities.
