Domestic abuse and sexual assault programs provide a variety of services for older victims of abuse and people with disabilities. Services may include 24-hour help line, emergency shelter, information and referral to services in your community, legal advocacy, support groups, individual peer support or counseling. If you have experience with aging or disabilities, make a connection with a local domestic abuse or sexual assault program to learn more aobut how these issues impact older victims with disabilities. To find a sexual assault service provider in your area go to http://wcasa.org/sasps/index.htm Join Your Local Elder Abuse Interdisciplinary TeamIn Wisconsin, an Elder Abuse Interdisciplinary Team (I-Team) works to assure safety and coordinated services for older victims of domestic violence. The strength of each I-Team depends on the range of professionals involved with the I-Team. It is important that professionals from law enforcement, clergy, APS, disability and aging systems and domstic abuse and sexual assault programs are involved with their I-Team to provide better services and safety for older victims of domestic violence. You may have valuable expertise to offer. For information on contacting your local I-Team contact the Aging and Disabilities Program Specialist at WCADV. Join Your Local Coordinated Community Response TeamLocal Coordinated Community Response (CCR) Teams include a variety of professionals working to end violence in their communities. It is important that professionals from APS and the aging and disability systems join their local CCR to make sure their focus includes issues of abuse in later life and/or elder abuse and abuse of people with disabilities.
