Developing a Welfare Response to Child Trafficking

Description: This webinar is part of a series offered by the National Center for Victims of Crime.

William Rivera, Director of Multicultural Affairs and Immigration Practice, at the Connecticut Department of Children and Families will make the argument that child sex trafficking is a child welfare issue. He will address some of the issues, challenges, and lessons CTDCF has overcome in building the existing response. He will also explain why all kids who are in the child welfare system are at heightened risk for trafficking, and how agencies that interact with youth can identify and potentially prevent their movement into the life. Finally, he will address the importance of developing partnerships with law enforcement and service providers to ensure that victims are not re-victimized. 

Panelist Info: William Rivera is Director of Multicultural Affairs and Immigration Practice, at the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (CTDCF). He serves as the Co-Leader of the Department's Human Anti-Trafficking Response Team. Since 2008 he has spearheaded efforts to build the CTDCF response to human trafficking of children
