When a Person Relocates: What Advocates Need to Know

When:
Monday, March 10 from 1:00-2:00 PM
Where:
At your desk

Join Tess Meuer, Director of Justice Systems, for an overview of five issues for survivors who have children and want to relocate: 1. Safety and economic issues; 2. Overview of federal and state laws that impact relocation; 3. Possible criminal provisions if a victim relocates;  4. Family law concerns – what will happen to the child(ren)? Which court has jurisdiction to make this decision? 5. Should she/he file a restraining order…and if so, before or after deciding to relocate?

This is a conference call only – not a webinar.  Participants will receive a link to advance reading materials when they register. These materials will be discussed during the conference call. Participants will receive a link to additional resources when they complete the post-conference call evaluation.

This webinar is part of a series for staff of domestic violence programs. On the second Monday of each month, End Abuse Legal staff Tess Meuer or Morgan Young will highlight a current legal issue or trend for advocates around the state. Time will be reserved at the end of the hour for participants to ask questions about the current topic--or any legal topic--of concern to victim advocates. These sessions will be either a webinar or a conference call.
