An Updated Background Paper and Sample Policy for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Programs.

This service animal background paper and the sample policy are designed to inform you about the legal and practical expectations when service animals are present within your agency and its programs. Learning about the legal requirements, developing your own service animal policy, and training staff to apply it consistently helps to alleviate potential liability issues -- for both illegal discrimination and presence of an animal on site.

This is not intended, nor should it be construed to provide specific legal advice, nor is it a comprehensive review of all aspects of the civil rights laws for people with disabilities who use service animals.

The WCADV Video/DVD Library contains videos and DVDs that can be used for presentations, trainings, support groups, etc.  It is recommend that you preview any borrowed resource to decide how much of it serves your objective(s).  

These video and DVD resources have been recommended and reviewed by members of WCADV at the time of acquisition.  Some of them were reviewed by the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and the Bureau on Aging.  Some are old. Some are new.  This VIDEO/DVD Library Guide, like the WCADV website itself, is undergoing revision.  In the meantime, what you find here will acquaint you with the current collection and WCADV's lending policies.

At the April 2008 meeting of its House of Delegates, the Wisconsin Medical Society reviewed and revised its longstanding policy on Domestic Violence. Overall, the revised policy affirms its original policy, first issued in 1994. The new policy clearly de-emphasizes reporting domestic violence and instead lists what it terms the obligations of physicians.

This is a recording of the webinar conducted by Legal Department Director Tess Meuer. It covers all of the changes to restraining orders that will be effective September 1, 2010. Harassment restraining orders will become more parallel to domestic abuse restraining orders. Additional changes discussed include: a uniform procedure for de novo review of a court commissioner’s decision; requirements for the court to follow prior to allowing a change from a domestic abuse order to a harassment order; the inclusion of space on petitions to indicate any other proceedings which prohibit contact between the parties; and a process for maintaining a confidential file for the petitioner’s address.
