Vote Today!

For our movement to be successful, survivors and advocates need to stay engaged in the political process. Remember to vote today, Tuesday, June 5, 2012. 

If you are an adult citizen and a Wisconsin resident, you are eligible to register and vote.  No photo ID is necessary.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. today and are open until 8 p.m. You can find your polling place here: https://vpa.wi.gov [1]

Residency: Citizens can still register at the polls; however, they must be residents of a municipality for 28 consecutive days to register as a voter from that address. Those who are not registered must provide acceptable proof of residence to register, such as a utility or other bill. If you have moved within 28 days of Election Day you can still vote at your former place of residence. If you have questions about becoming a confidential voter or voting from a shelter address, call Tony Gibart at WCADV (608.255.0539 x. 310)

Photo ID and Signatures: You do not need a photo ID for this election. You will be asked to sign the poll book. You can use a stamp or mark if necessary. If you are unable to sign due to a physical disability, you can request an exemption.

Voting Guide for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Victim Advocates

This guide is meant to help advocates assist their clients with the voting process. With the passage of the Wisconsin photo ID voting law, there is a lot of confusion about who can vote and how they can vote.  The guide explains how survivors can register to vote and ensure they have the proper documentation to vote.   In this volatile political climate and budgetary climate, we need survivors’ voices and participation at the ballot box now more than ever.

The Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Governor’s Council on Domestic Abuse has created a long-range plan for serving Domestic Abuse victims. Recommendations address the issues of Economic Justice, Financial Self- Sufficiency, Housing, Legal assistance and Primary Prevention.

WCADV and WCASA Milwaukee Sick Pay Brief

Domestic and sexual violence take a tremendous toll on public health and safety in Milwaukee. This brief, filed by WCADV and WCASA, supports the Milwaukee Paid Sick Days Ordinance which permits victims paid leave to obtain services from these organizations.
